originally released by infrequency editions in 2003, snowfield represents one of the earliest collaborative recordings of drouin & olsen. conceived for a sound installation of the same name at the folly gallery (lancaster, uk)*, snowfield used a remote snow-covered landscape in british columbia measuring the same dimensions as the gallery exhibition room. all sounds were derived from interacting within this zone, which were then played back on a quadraphonic system within the otherwise empty gallery later that year.

This is an exercise in deep listening... My first encounter with Steve Roden's work was the Dust To Digital curatorial release "I listen to the wind that obliterates my traces"...the tautology of that phrase intrigues me and so does Forms of Paper: quiet,intense,spacious,intricate...we are in micro territory here and we must adjust our perception accordingly...I think it is beautiful.
