Long before Lance Austin Olsen carried an audio recorder, he collected overheard conversations and visual snippets of his daily walks in his sketchbooks. These dislocated fragments form the narrative framework of "the room was great", combining found poetry with collages made using Olsen's familiar palette of torn magazines, family photos, and masking tape.

"the room was great" provides a new perspective into Olsen’s expansive creative output – equal parts documentation and experimentation within the book format.

Books are individually signed and numbered in pencil.
